Focusing on the theme: “Envisioning the Future of Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, the session featured speakers who shared their perspectives on the session theme: what are the challenges, opportunities, and benefits for industries and businesses.
CACCI President Mr. Peter McMullin once again delivered his day two welcome address through a pre-recorded video. In his Address, Mr. McMullin reiterated the importance of the SET principle. He said that sustainability is not merely a choice but an absolute necessity for the well-being of the planet and future generations. He emphasized that entrepreneurship fuels innovation, job creation and economic growth. Finally, he noted that trade unites nations in an increasingly globalized world and is indispensable for shared prosperity.
Mr. McMullin pointed out that the Conference theme underscores the Confederation’s unwavering commitment to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world. He stressed the organization’s determination to ensure that businesses are sustainable, innovative, and well-connected to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of the future by exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and forging meaningful partnerships. He expressed his appreciation to Mr. Lennon Tan, SMF President and CACCI Vice President for Sustainability, for his and SMF’s work on the Asia-Pacific Green Alliance, which he said is an important initiative that provides the necessary framework and tools to help businesses effectively embark on the needed transition to be future-ready.
The guest of honor for the second day’s opening ceremony was Mr. Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of Trade, Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore. In his opening address, Mr. Tan said that the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum and the 38th CACCI Conference provided a great opportunity to engage with business leaders and experts on how AI, automation, sustainability, and human capital are shaping global trade, supply chains and productivity.
Mr. Tan also shared insights into how Singapore and National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) are leading efforts in AI and sustainability to drive business and workforce transformation. He remarked that it was also inspiring to learn of the planned launch of the Asia Pacific Green Alliance during the Conference, which he believed would be a step toward advancing green planning to new heights.
Mr. Tan encouraged companies to continue collaborating in shaping the future of business in the Asia Pacific region – driving transformation, innovation, and cross-industry collaboration, while building a future-ready workforce and economy.
Mr. Edmond’s Tan’s Opening Address was followed by the official launching of the APAC Green Alliance, a new initiative focused on fostering cross-border partnerships dedicated to sustainability.
In his remarks, SMF President Mr. Lennon Tan cited the importance and timeliness of the APAC Green Alliance, which he cited as an innovative response to the fragmented sustainability landscape that the region currently navigates. He said that countries across the region encounter diverse standards, regulations, and approaches to sustainability. He pointed out that this diversity, while reflective of local priorities and contexts, creates a significant challenge, especially for small and medium enterprises. Unlike larger counterparts like multinational companies (MNCs), local large enterprises or listed companies, SMEs often lack the resources or expertise to adapt to varying sustainability demands.
“The APAC Green Alliance represents our commitment to regional growth through environmental stewardship, advancing our collective goals for sustainable and inclusive development,” Mr. Tan said. He added that the alliance will allow businesses across Asia-Pacific to share resources, knowledge, and innovations, fostering a strong ecosystem for a greener, resilient future. “As we embark on this journey together, let me emphasize that today’s gathering is just the beginning. SMF and CACCI remain resolute in our dedication to leading with innovation, collaboration, and sustainability within the manufacturing sector. With initiatives like APAC-GA and S.H.I.P., we are building a strong foundation for long-term success across the region,” Mr. Tan concluded.
Thereafter, the Keynote Address was delivered by His Excellency Dr. Ceferino S. Rodolfo, Undersecretary (Vice Minister), Industry Development, Trade and Investment Promotions, Managing Head, Board of Investments, Philippines. Dr. Rodolfo delivered a keynote on the critical role of industry collaboration in fostering sustainable economic growth.
With his expertise in international trade negotiations and investments, he provided invaluable insights into the future of trade and industry in the Asia-Pacific. Drawing from his own personal experience over the years in dealing with relevant governments and private organizations both in the Philippines and abroad, he highlighted the challenges he encountered and offered his insights on how to overcome them to achieve sustainable economic growth.
