Mr. Amador Honrado, Deputy Director-General of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI), joined an online meeting with Mr. Ricardo Mussa, Global Chair of Sustainable Business COP (SB COP) and his two colleagues Ms. Fernanda Tadei and Ms. Sabrina Sabatovicz, that took place on September 17, 2026, at 18:30 PM, Taiwan Time) (07:30 AM, Brazil Time).

(1) During the meeting, Mr. Mussa introduced SB COP and its activities, highlighting the following:

(a) The SB COP is a major global initiative designed to structure, strengthen, and formalize private sector participation in international climate negotiations. Modeled after the success of the B20 (Business 20) initiative for the G20, the SB COP serves as a permanent channel—often described as a "mini UN for the private sector"—to influence public policy and UNFCCC decisions with practical, private-sector driven solutions.

• Founding and Structure: Originally launched ahead of the COP30 United Nations Climate Summit in Brazil, the initiative was spearheaded by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
• Global Alliance: It unites a council representing 60 countries and a network of over 40 million companies, collectively accounting for roughly 77% of global economic activity (GDP).
• Transferable Model: The leadership structure is designed to pass seamlessly from country to country; the private sector of the host nation takes the lead as the United Nations climate conference rotates globally.

(b) The initiative aligns its priorities with the UNFCCC Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, keeping business actions focused on a five-year horizon to meet the Paris Agreement. Its operations are divided into six primary Action Agenda axes:

• Energy, Industry, and Transport: Accelerating the global energy transition and decarbonizing heavy industry.
• Forests, Oceans, and Biodiversity: Protecting critical carbon sinks and natural marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
• Agriculture and Food Systems: Developing sustainable, low-carbon supply chains for global food security.
• Cities, Infrastructure, and Water: Engineering climate resilience into urban environments and water systems.
• Human and Social Development: Cultivating green jobs, expanding sustainability skills, and emphasizing human rights.
• Enablers and Accelerators: Unlocking climate finance, advancing technological transfers, and building capacity.

(c) Rather than generating theoretical or academic concepts, SB COP focuses entirely on finding, validating, and scaling existing private sector projects that yield both measurable environmental results and solid financial returns. Promising corporate case studies—vetted by global consultancies like McKinsey, BCG, and Accenture—are presented directly to world leaders at climate summits to advocate for the public policy frameworks businesses need to confidently invest in a low-carbon future.

(2) Mr. Mussa reiterated his invitation for CACCI to join the Business Council of SB COP. He pointed out that as a member of the SB COP Business Council, CACCI would play a strategic role in:

• Guiding the strategic direction of Working Groups and thematic priorities across SB COP’s agenda
• Facilitating global engagement by mobilizing companies, leaders, and stakeholders from CACCI member countries and the region to participate in SB COP’s working groups and events
• Co-shaping deliverables including joint declarations, position papers, and the SB COP Final Report presented to the COP Presidency and the UNFCCC Action Agenda
• Representing CACCI member countries’ business communities within the most significant private sector platform associated with the UNFCC process, alongside peer organizations from economies around the world.

(3) In response, Mr. Honrado thanked Mr. Mussa for inviting CACCI to be a member of the SB COP Business Council, adding that it is an honor for CACCI to be given the opportunity to take part in the activities aimed at implementing business-initiatives within the global agenda, which he said aligns well with one of the immediate concerns of CACCI and its members.

(4) Mr. Honrado proceeded to make a brief introduction of CACCI and its activities, citing in particular the following relevant information:

• The launching in late November 2024 of the Asia Pacific Green Alliance (APGA) in response to the fragmented sustainability landscape that countries worldwide currently navigate. Many countries encounter diverse standards, regulations, and approaches to sustainability. This diversity, while reflective of local priorities and contexts, creates a significant challenge, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The vision and mission of APGA are as follows: (i) Vision: To unify sustainability reporting across the Asia Pacific economies with a standard that ensures transparency and accountability, and amplifies the region's global influence; and (ii) Mission: To empower companies with simplified actionable sustainability tools while advocating Asia-Pacific priorities on the global stage.
• Prior to the official launching of the APAC-GA in November 2024, CACCI President Mr. Peter McMullin commissioned a study aimed at getting a better understanding of the needs and challenges faced by SMEs in transitioning their businesses or organizations toward net-zero goals. Conducted through interviews, the study also sought to gather insights and suggestions on how CACCI can provide effective support in this transition.
• CACCI is a member of CoNGO, an international organization of NGOs granted consultive status with the United Nations. CACCI is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of CoNGO that meets every year to discuss the activities of CoNGO members aimed at helping the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
• CACCI President Mr. Peter McMullin AM and CACCI members have been invited by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) to attend the COP31 Business Forum – New York Dialogues to be held at Bloomberg Headquarters in New York on 22 September 2026 during Climate Week NYC.
• CACCI has been coordinating with the ICC World Chambers Federation in planning the holding of joint webinars on sustainability. This includes a joint webinar on “Making Sense of Sustainability Requirements for SMEs in Asia-Pacific to be held on 2 October 2026, aimed at offering practical insights into navigating sustainability expectations in international trade and export markets, while helping SMEs better understand how these requirements may affect their business relationships, access to markets, and financing opportunities.

(5) Mr. Mussa said he was pleased to know about the active involvement in many of the activities related to promoting sustainability not only in the region but globally as well. He informed Mr. Honrado that he would keep him and CACCI updated on the activities of SB COP going forward and would propose which among these activities CACCI and SB COP can collaborate and work together.
